Which Facial Serum Should You Be Using?
Using a facial serum is an important part of my skincare routine. For those of you wondering what exactly a facial serum is, it’s essentially a lightweight moisturizer. Don’t be fooled by the basic description though. Because it is lightweight it can penetrate the skin deeper to deliver all of the important active ingredients. Depending on the formula these ingredients help combat your major skin concerns. Trying to figure out which facial serum you should be using can feel overwhelming. There are so many products on the market. Here are some of my facial serum recommendations.
bareMinerals Ageless Genius
This line is known for their mineral-based natural makeup but they have so much more to offer. It has mineral gold with anti-aging peptides. You can actually see the tiny little specks of gold. When you apply this serum it instantly leaves your skin luminous thanks to the gold. It absorbs quickly and you only need to use a few drops. You apply it to clean skin in the morning and at night. Due to its price, it’s a great option.
Dr. Brandt Skincare Bright Biotic
This particular serum is for those looking to target dark spots. In addition to helping brighten dark spots the formula helps to restore your skin’s pH levels and protect it from environmental stressors. It’s paraben and sulfate free as well. This is the kind of product where you can really appreciate the science that goes into a good skin care product. You can check out the other products I’ve used here.
Image Skincare Vital C Hydrating Ant-Aging Serum
This works on all skin types and really helps to soften all those fine lines. It’s especially great for dry dehydrated skin or sensitive skin. The formula is designed to brighten and tighten. It also supports collagen synthesis. The price point falls in line with the above options as well. It smells really good too. I’ve heard some complaints about the pump so be sure to go easy on it.
SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense
This is another serum that’s great for dealing with dark spots and evening out skin tone while brightening. It’s also good for all skin types. This particular formula is also good for those extra tough spots like post-acne spots. It should be noted with this product it’s important to use a high-level SPF and limit your exposure to the sun. If your skin is ultra sensitive make sure you do a patch test first.
Dermalogica Bio-LuminC Serum
Dermalogica always has great products and this one doesn’t disappoint. This is another great facial serum recommendation for those looking to brighten dull skin. It has peptides to help with collagen production and lactic acid to speed up cell turnover. Dermalogica also doesn’t use artificial coloring, fragrances, or mineral oil in their products.
I’d also like to note that you should still use your regular moisturizer in addition to the serum. You can use your serum in the morning and at night as part of your routine. Also, don’t forget your SPF!
