Where do you live?

As of July 2012, I’m officially a New Yorker.

Where are you originally from?

I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. I’m a Midwest girl at heart, but I love the hustle and bustle of a big city!

How did you get from MO to NY?

After I graduated from college at the University of Missouri, I wanted to pursue a career in technology. My dream was to be the Founder and CEO of a new tech company. Where would be the best place to gain the right experience for this…Silicon Valley. After working in San Francisco for five years, I was given an opportunity to move up and relocate to New York.

Why did you decide to start a fashion blog?

Ever since I was in high school, I’ve been into fashion and more importantly trends. I loved seeing trends and how people styled with different pieces. After several years of my friends asking me where I got my shoes, top or skirt, I decided to start a fashion blog to encourage others to try new pieces in their closet and show my peers how to wear certain pieces to work.

What inspired the name, Corporate Catwalk?

The name took months to form. The original name was Neon Polka Dots (so glad that name didn’t stick). I got help from my sister-in-law. She helped me think of a name that fit my style and my niche. Working in corporate America, I had to learn how to dress accordingly. When going to customers meetings, I had to figure out a way to look professional, yet not lose my identity in a black suit. The name fit perfectly with my career and my love for fashion.

What piece of advice would you give a professional woman who wants to look fashionable, yet professional?

Don’t ever lose your identity. For men it’s simple. They put on a nice fitted suit and they look like a million bucks! For women, we’re different. As we’ve all seen, a suit doesn’t look great on every woman. However, there are so many options. Also be aware of skirts that are too short and tops that are too low. When in doubt, tuck in your top; you’ll look more put together. Color in the office is beautiful. You’ll be surprised how many people love to see bright pink on a Monday. It helps the whole office get through the day. As my blog suggests, make your office space your catwalk!
