The Red Skirt You Need This Holiday Season
This is the obvious color during the holidays but it is one that is somewhat intimidating. Red can go with anything, however, it can get tricky. Sticking with simpler the better here usually works best. When I say simple, that doesn’t mean boring. It just means the red should be the star. I have tended to get too aggressive with color and the colors just end up fighting each other for attention. Whether you are wearing a red top or red skirt, let that item be the star and complement them with neutral colors. By the way, this is simply my taste. There is no right or wrong way with this stuff.
There is one combination or top & bottom that I tend to shy away from and that’s black and red. I’ll complement my red with a black purse or heels but choose a neutral top (in this particular case). So typically, I’ll pair my red skirt with a warm neutral, like caramel, taupe or cream. Depending on the tone of red, if it has hints of orange in it, try pairing it with olive green too. Stick to a soft, thin fabric like cashmere or cotton – a simple tee, a cropped sweater or a crisp white shirt, are great options for a more casual look too. Again, try and not mix in too many other colors with the red, let the skirt be the star of the show.
