WHY RED IS THE COLOR THIS FALL

Red will never really go out of style and as much as we can sometimes hesitate to wear it, red is not going anywhere. The vibrant hue scorched Fall 2017’s runways with a renewed fervor.

Part of red’s allure is that it’s largely about being seen. The designers let us know that this is not a time to shy away, but a time to be brave; to stop and think hard about who we want to be.

It takes some bravery to wear a fierce color from head to toe, especially one so attention-grabbing as fire-engine crimson. So, how do we actually wear it this fall? One of my favorite ways to show your red crush is head-to-toe and layered. More is more in this case. You want to be visible. Highly visible. Is there a color out there that turns heads more than red? No. The answer is no. Slip on a red turtleneck with a scarlet pair of trousers. Match it with a suede trench coat and accessories. You could one of two ways — the more ambitious, exact-matching scenario (think Givenchy) or the more achievable one in which each article of clothing is a slightly different shade. Just keep it crimson and you’ll go far.

Here are five red staple pieces that you can add to your wardrobe for both work and play. I own two of them, the skirt and coat. Can’t wait to add more to my closet this season.

Red Staples for Fall

Want strong, masculine tailoring? You can have that. Something seductive and feminine? Check. If you’re feeling romantic, look to a dreamy off-the-shoulder gown. The one that makes you dream of wearing it while walking down a spiral staircase on your way out to a gala.

However, if you’re feeling a little less daring, a bold red boot or shoe is a much more subtle way to include the trend. If you are feeling a little more daring, go for a thigh-high or wear a higher boot with a knee length skirt or dress. Preferably printed. Ankle boots look equally fetching with a longer skirt or the season’s cropped trousers. Tights also seem to be officially back in the mix. They are something that I don’t typically wear but you can match with your red shoes or stay simply stay neutral.

No matter if you’re looking to stand out, make a statement of solidarity, or add some color to your life, the point is there’s something for whatever kind of woman you want to be.

Have fun with it & happy shopping!

xo, Olivia
