Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! This morning we took a trip to DUMBO to snap a few photos and grab coffee at Brooklyn Roasting Company. Follow me on Snapchat to see all the photos and videos from our trip, my username is CorporatCatwalk (no e on Corporate).

This summer we’re going to be making over the apartment and I will sharing our progress each step of the way. After three years in our apartment, we’ve decided to update our entire home (here’s a look at our place in 2013 and 2015) one room at a time. As you can see, we’ve made a few updates since 2013. We love our fireplace and updating it was easily one of our biggest projects. We stripped the entire fireplace of 30+ years of white paint and repainted it charcoal black (here’s how we did it). If you live in New York, you’re probably familiar with the layers of paint on walls, baseboards and any accent pieces in an apartment. It was a tedious process, but worth the time and money to update what is now the focal point in our oversized living room.

To minimize clutter and make for a cleaner set-up, I opted for one large photo above the fireplace with just a few accent pieces. Midcentury pieces have become a theme in the apartment. I stumbled upon these cool vintage chairs and marble table. Both pieces are over 30 years old and just fit in really well with the fireplace. Going forward we may look to change this area of the living room into a workplace but for now it’s a great sitting area. I still have some work to do with the bookshelves but I started with closing the bottom with some custom doors that we are in the middle of installing. It’s starting to all come together. Keep checking in as we move on to the next room. What updates might you be looking to make at your home? Happy Decorating!

ps. if you’re in NYC, I highly recommend buying peonies from Trader Joe’s! They’re $5.99 for a bouquet of 5-6 flowers. Most places in the city average $2-$3 a steam.

pss. don’t forget to store your flowers in the fridge overnight, they’ll last twice as long.
