Our First Trip As a Family

It has been quite a few months since our last vacation. We didn’t travel during the lead-up to Sebastian’s arrival, so we have been well overdue for a little trip. The time with Sebastian has flown by and it’s hard to believe he is almost 3 months old already. He is getting so big so fast. It really does feel like just yesterday I was in Cornell giving birth to him. It reminds me of what my parents use to say to me, “Don’t be in too big of a hurry to grow-up. It goes by really fast.” Oh so true. As amazing as these last few months have been, it has been physically and mentally draining on both of us. Trying to juggle work and Sebastian has been a challenge but a welcome one. That being said, this trip was needed. It wasn’t planned. Just a spur of the moment decision, like most of the trips we take. We will typically give ourselves longer than a week but we are both pretty spontaneous when it comes to this stuff. Matt and I just wanted to get away and relax with Sebastian.

It can be quite hard to get out of the city. You simply get caught up in life and flat out busy. We thought it would be a lot of fun for Sebastian’s first trip out of the country to be where Matt and I got married…Playa Del Carmen. We stayed at the same resort we hosted our family and friends for our wedding. It was super cool to be back and it brought back so many fun memories. Being able to spend this time with Sebastian has been nothing short of incredible for Matt and I. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect way to spend our first trip of the year.

During the trip, several expecting and new moms have asked me about traveling with a newborn. Being brand new at this, we have no prior experience to measure against but it’s been much easier than I think we both expected. The hardest part was figuring out how to dress Sebastian for his passport photo. No, I’m kidding. It has re-enforced patience in both Matt and myself. Sebastian is of course a baby, so he makes the rules. While we can’t necessarily do all the things we would normally do on vacation, it’s ok, because it’s perfect having him with us. We did ask several of our friends what to expect when traveling with an infant and for the most part they said the same thing…keep them out of the sun as much as possible, get baby gear with SPF built-in and give him a bottle while taking off and landing. Check, check and check.

Swimwear

Coverups

Speaking of gear, Sebastian wasn’t the only one to get some new clothes for the trip. Since swimsuits were a necessity for this trip, I got even more excited than usual. They are just so much fun to shop for because it means you are going to the beach! LOFT has some super cool pieces in their new swimwear collection that I picked up for the trip. I absolutely love my one-piece suit with the scalloped neck-line. The sarong is really fun too and a perfect added layer for my suit. Whether you are looking for a new swimsuit, a maxi dress, romper or other beach accessories, LOFT has it all for you this summer!
