Finding Comfort Through Confidence And Sleep
This post is in collaboration with Sapira who provided us with their new luxury hybrid mattress. All opinions within this post are my own.
As first time parents there’s so much we’re learning everyday. You find yourself constantly questioning everything and sometimes each other. Are you putting the diaper on the right way? Is the bath water too hot? Is he too tight in his SNOO? The list goes on and even though you know everything is fine, you can’t help but overthink.
It all kind of started after out second visit with our pediatrician. Sebastian wasn’t putting on enough weight and was actually pretty far behind. It was hard to hear that because breastfeeding is actually quite difficult. You immediately wonder if you are the problem. Am I feeding him correctly? Am I even able to produce enough milk? Am I using the correct breast pump? Am I going to be able to withstand the pain and keep him on schedule? It really plays with your head. All that being said, everything has turned out great. The pediatrician weighed him and he successfully passed his test…or maybe Matt and I passed our first test as parents.
Matt and I have loved every step of the way and couldn’t be happier. In a sense, parenting is like most things in life we are trying to accomplish, practice makes perfect. Although we are far from perfect, confidence is growing. The more time that goes by, the more diapers we change, the more I feed him, the more comfort we gain.
One area that we has been surprisingly easier than expected is sleep. I say that because of all the horror stories we heard prior about not getting any sleep. While I understand everyone has different experiences, we have been able to get 6-7 hrs of sleep a night. However, it has been an adjustment and we do have to get up to change him, feed him, or simply hold him for a little bit. Sebastian is such a good sleeper! It goes without saying (but I’ll say it anyway), everyone needs their rest and a quality night’s sleep. For us, sleep has never been more important. Having to balance our work, the blog, Sebastian, and the animals, it is absolutely essential we have a comfortable mattress and are able to take advantage of sleep time.
The Sapira hybrid mattress is the first luxury pocket spring and performance foam mattress delivered in a box that offers an extraordinary sleep experience created to exceed the expectations of the most discerning mattress buyers at a surprisingly low price. Sapira is part of Leesa’s industry leading social impact program. They donate mattresses, plant trees and support the community (yay for companies giving back to the community!). What’s been so luxurious for us, is that the mattress arrives in a box and is delivered right to our apartment building in Manhattan. Anyone who lives on the island knows that getting a moving truck or having large items delivered is sometimes a nightmare (taking time off work, freight elevators and will it actually fit through all the doorways?!) You simply take the mattress out of the box, and put it on the bed frame. What originally drew us to working with the Sapira, is that they allow you to try out the mattress for 100 nights and provide hassle free returns. I love a good return policy! It has truly been an amazing experience and one I hope you are able to try out for yourselves!
For all you mommas out there, please let me know any tips and tricks you have in your back pocket that you have found useful when caring for your newborn.
