At the start of my career, women leadership in the workplace has been on a steady rise. I’ve seen very successful women step into powerful positions at their companies. One in particular really stood out, Jenna Lyons, which leads me to the inspiration behind today’s post. In collaboration with Zenni Optical, an affordable and stylish eyewear brand, I’m sharing how a woman has inspired me in my life.
As a longtime fan of J.Crew, especially in the workplace, I’ve followed Jenna’s career path closely. When she took over as Creative Director at J.Crew in 2008 and then President in 2010, she recreated a classic brand. Jenna encouraged women to take more risks in their everyday wardrobe and in my case, my work wardrobe. What I find fascinating is that she recreated the brand based on her own personal style. She inspired so many women by simply being herself.
Having read several interviews from Jenna, her message is the same, work hard and be humble. Any one can appreciate the idea of a little elbow grease to get to the top. My favorite interview by Jenna Lyons is her Best Success Tips. Someone who loves career advice and fashion, these are some of the best tips for both! Residing at J. Crew for over 25 years, she knows a thing or two about working hard.
Not only is she a woman leader in the workplace, but she’s one of today’s biggest fashion icons. Her style is unique, yet relatable. She embraces her feminine style with a touch of masculinity. She incorporates statement pieces, such as her round glasses and classic blazer to create an image that inspires.
It’s no secret that the world is full of women who inspire and lead, and for me, Jenna Lyons is one who I look up to. She did things the old fashion way, by working hard and dedicating herself to her dreams. I am looking forward to seeing what’s next for Jenna and the J.Crew empire. Till then, I’ll continue to lust over her perfectly curated J.Crew catalog outfits and read her latest style and work advice.
