First off, congratulations on your internship! It’s an important step towards starting your career. They’re a great chance to gain experience, build your resume, and network. This is where you could potentially land your first job. Your internship performance is important but so is the way you present yourself. Also, I’m a big believer that if you dress the part then you’ll feel the part. Confidence does amazing things in the workplace. For some, this will be the first time you begin to really expand the workwear section of your wardrobe. The key here will be to have 10 pieces that you can mix and match to create multiple looks. 10 Fall Internship Pieces

1. Blazer

Unless you currently have blazers in your wardrobe, I would stick with the basics here. Go with colors and cuts that will carry you through the seasons and that will go with multiple pieces in your wardrobe. You want to be able to mix and match easily to create multiple looks.

2. Pencil Skirt

I love a good pencil skirt. It’s such a classic piece and a must in your workwear wardrobe. It’s a must-have for your internship. They come in plenty of colors and lengths to add variety.

3. Bag

I am all for investment pieces but the truth is you don’t need to spend a lot of money to look great. It’s true for bags as well. The trick is to avoid a lot of embellishments and stick with clean, classic designs. These will be work appropriate and fit all of your essentials during your commute.

4. Button Down Shirt

The button down shirt is a true work staple. If you only get one I recommend a white one. It will go with just about everything and every office environment. There are so many options out there to fit your style and aesthetic though. They can be worn alone or as layering pieces with sweaters or blazers.

5. Pumps

As you’re trying to build your wardrobe you want to invest in some neutral colors first before venturing into more bolder ones. You can play around a big with heel heights but it’s probably a safe bet to avoid going too high especially if you’re not used to being in heels all day.

6. Sweater

Sweaters are perfect for layering and as we head into the fall temperatures are going to start dropping. There are plenty of ways to dress them up for your internship and dress them down for class or when you’re out with your friends. These are the pieces that pull double duty in your wardrobe.

7. Delicate Jewelry

In most settings, you want to keep your jewelry simple. Delicate pieces are usually pieces. Think studs or simple necklaces and rings etc.

8. Trousers

There are so many styles to choose from whether you decide to go with wide-leg, slim, or a tie waist. This is an easy way to add variety to your wardrobe but make sure to stock up on basic colors.

9. Flats

I personally love heels but I get that not everyone does. Flats can be perfectly appropriate for the office. They’re great for commuting in so feel free to switch it up as necessary.

10. Dress

A great dress can be a huge confidence booster. With so many options out there you can really show off some of your individual style. Be mindful of length and fit to keep it appropriate for your internship. Try pairing a dress with a sweater or blazer to create a different look.

Thinking about internships really does take me back. Just remember the little bit of extra effort in how you present yourself can leave a lasting impression. Speaking from personal experience, when I look good, I feel good.
