Week 3 – 30 Day Workplace Challenge Building Your Brand
Welcome to the third week of the workplace challenge! For those of you just joining you can find week 1 here and week 2 here. This week is all about personal branding, what that means, and why it’s important. Branding isn’t just for companies. It’s all about how you present yourself. You never know when that next great opportunity will come along so you want to be prepared. This week, the challenges are all about developing and maintaining your personal brand. Like the previous weeks, these challenges involve small tweaks to your daily routines.
For some of you, this may be a completely new territory. For others, you may already be heavily invested in your brand. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to get back to basics once in a while.
Day 13: Monday, January 15th
Plan your outfit head to toe. Do your hair, your make up, wear that nice watch, etc. Go into the office looking great. When you look good, you feel good. (It helps to lay out your clothes the night before to save you time in the morning.)
Day 14: Tuesday, January 16th
Get to the office before your boss. I want you to get to the office 20 minutes early. Be at your desk ready to go. You can be working on something or even just reading an article. Just be there before your boss gets there.
Day 15: Wednesday, January 17th
Focus on your posture. When you’re sitting at your desk make sure you’re not slouching. Stand up straight as you move around the office. Part of being in a corporate setting is perception. The way you carry yourself sends a message.
Day 16: Thursday, January 18th
Find a male mentor and mimic them. We’ve talked a lot about mentors on these challenges. You can never have too many teachers. There is something to be learned from everyone you cross paths with. Watch them take calls. Watch how they introduce themselves. Just Watch, learn, and mimic.
Day 17: Friday, January 19th
The next time someone walks into a room. Stand up, shake their hand, introduce yourself. Be firm. Be confident. This is a great chance to practice your introduction. It’ll feel more natural the more you do it.
Day 18: Saturday, January 20th
Start acting like it. Perception is reality. We’ve talked about this before. If you want to be a manager start acting more like one. Take on projects. Speak up at meetings. Learn the skills it takes. Whatever it is you want to be, start acting like it.
Day 19: Sunday, January 21st
Back to last Sunday…plan your outfit head to toe. Do your hair, your make up, wear that nice watch, etc. Go into the office looking great. When you look good, you feel good. (It helps to lay out your clothes the night before to save you time in the morning.)
I’d love to hear about your personal brand and your thoughts on the challenges this week.
xo, Olivia
