5 Ways to Unwind on Your Next Business Trip

Traveling for business is like a double-edged sword. While it can be fun to travel, working away from home and your central location can take a toll, both mentally and physically. That’s why when I travel, I value the time at the end of the day that I have to unwind, especially when I am away from home. Having a nightcap or nightly ritual is key to keeping your cool, especially when work can become stressful. I love being able to sit back and relax in my hotel room, but I also like having the option of going out and exploring the neighborhood if I want. That’s why Cambria Hotels’ new Nightcap Program is perfect for business travelers. Just as the definition of the nightcap has evolved as a way to treat yourself and celebrate your accomplishments, Cambria is evolving to help business travelers wind down with little luxuries by providing new ways to enjoy a personalized capstone to their day. Here are five ways I like to unwind on my business trips with help from Cambria Hotels:

Grabbing a Cocktail in the Hotel Bar

For me, the best way to unwind after a stressful day at work is having a cocktail. I will sometimes go down to the bar with a coworker to socialize and discuss things that are NOT work related but still give me a sense of socializing that I might do with my friends when I am home. I also think grabbing a cocktail post-work is a great way to celebrate your professional accomplishments, no matter the size. At Cambria Hotels, they offer local craft beer and cocktails that are delicious, as well as Chamomile Lavender Tea and Cookies + Milk on their Modern Nightcap Menu to relax and treat yourself to something sweet. Being able to rely on a hotel where I know they are going to have great customer service is essential. The experience I had at the Chelsea location felt elevated, but not too over the top and was the perfect place to unwind after a long day.

Working Out

When I have a long day, sometimes all I need to do is blow off some steam. I love having the option to unwind by working out when I travel without worrying about the hassle of leaving the hotel. Every Cambria is equipped with a great fitness center and many of them have pools if swimming is more of your forte. Cambria Hotels want to provide their guests with a balanced yet heightened experience and including a fitness center is key to ensuring there is a balance for activities outside of work and away from the bar. Working out is a great option to have if you have time to squeeze in a workout before work or even after!

A Shower or Bath

It is essential for me to have a place and space when I travel that I feel like I can own, even if it is for a couple of days. I think creating a space that you feel like you are comfortable and can fully relax in is so important when you are traveling. The bathrooms at Cambria Hotels provide guests with an upscale experience. The bathrooms are spa-style which gives off an upgraded ambiance and they even have Bluetooth mirrors that I think are so cool. One thing I do every night as my nightcap when I am traveling is take a hot shower or bath. It helps me remove myself from my work, allows me to fully relax, and helps me own my place and space in the hotel. As part of the Nightcap Program, Cambria Hotels provides Choice Privileges members face masks and shower bursts to create a soothing experience before turning in for the night.

Relaxing With a Good Book

Another thing I like to do is read. I love reading about new ways to grow my business and better myself as a female entrepreneur. Reading helps me focus as I expand my knowledge but still allows me to unwind at the end of the day. While I like reading in bed, sometimes it makes me too tired so I like to go out and find a place that is comfortable but will still keep me alert as I read. Many Cambria Hotels have great rooftop areas. In the hotel we explored in Chelsea, there was a beautiful view of the city and it would be a great place to sit back and relax with a good book.

Taking a Walk and Exploring

Finally, when I am traveling, I like to get a feel for the surrounding city outside of my workspace. I often times will go on walks after work and grab a bite to eat so I can get a taste of the surrounding area, even if it is only for an evening. That’s why when I travel, I always try to stay in prime locations where I can get out and walk without having to hail a cab or take public transportation.

Where are you traveling to next? Cambria Hotels has a great place for you to stay!
