Definitely, Maybe

Netflix

This movie is filled with flashbacks as a dad tries to explain his upcoming divorce and previous relationships to his sharp-witted 11-year-old daughter. This movie is a classic romantic comedy and will leave you wondering how Ryan Reynolds never seems to age.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Netflix

Netflix has really stepped up their game when it comes to their original content. This movie is based on a book. The story is about a girl in high school named Lara Jean whose love letters to her secret crushes are mysteriously mailed out to each person. As you can imagine, things get awkward.

A Walk to Remember

Hulu

There’s an entire generation just now discovering Mandy Moore in This is Us. However, there are plenty of us that know her from her budding pop and acting career in the early 2000s. This is a classic tale of a good girl changing the ways of a bad boy. We all learned what it meant to be in two places at once.

Silver Linings Playbook

Netflix

Jennifer Lawrence won an Oscar for her role in this movie. Her and Bradley Cooper deliver amazing performances in this movie. Without going too much into detail about the characters, the movie is essentially about two people with their own baggage connecting.

Chocolat

Netflix

First tip here is to have plenty of chocolate on hand. You’ll want some. The second tip, book a vacation to France after. A woman and her daughter move to a rural town in France and open a chocolate shop but are met with resistance by the town. On the surface, this seems dull but trust me on this one.

Mamma Mia

Netflix

The cast, the music, the story, what’s not to love? It does make me want to book a trip to Greece though. For those of you unfamiliar with the movie, the story centers around a bride who discovers that one of three men could be her father. She invites them all to her wedding much to the surprise of her mother and it’s all set to ABBA songs.

Sixteen Candles

Netflix

There’s an entire generation that’s been raised on Molly Ringwald movies. These are the ultimate rom-com movies. They’re timeless. The story centers around Samantha and her high school experience. She has a crush on the most popular boy in school, her sister is getting married, and her family forgot her birthday.

Clueless

Amazon Prime

This is a cult classic. If a person can’t quote this movie, you can usually guess their age. Cher, a wealthy high school student, tries to navigate all things high school while helping a new student become popular.

The Big Sick

Amazon Prime

This movie is both funny and sentimental. The cast is impressive. It’s about a comedian and grad student from different cultures who fall in love. The relationship is kept hidden until one of them gets seriously ill and slips into a coma. The families then become involved and everything is then exposed. It’s an excellent movie.

Crazy Rich Asians

Just rent it!

Ok, this is technically only available to stream right now but you might as well just buy it because you’ll want to watch it more than once. The cast, the story, the location, and the clothes are all just incredible. The story centers around Rachel heading to Singapore to meet her boyfriend’s family at his best friend’s wedding. While there, she finds out a huge secret he’s been keeping all along about his background.

What are your favorite romantic or rom-com movies?

xo, Olivia
