The weather in New York City has finally given way to the cooler temperatures of fall. Outerwear this time of year in some ways has a tougher job than winter jackets. It needs to strike the balance of looking great and be versatile enough to deal with the temperature fluctuations common this time of year. You also want something that can carry you into winter with the proper layering before breaking out the heavier coats. There are lots of styles, colors, and materials to choose from. Here are some of my favorite coats for fall.
Wool & Wool Blends
This may seem counterintuitive from what I discussed above but these particular styles are thinner than the traditional wool coats that usually come to mind. It makes them just warm enough but not too heavy for this time of year. This one featured in the monochromatic look post is actually really soft. Most of the ones selected also have the great wrap detail at the waist.
This is a big trend right now that’s everywhere. It’s not hard to understand why especially if you’ve tried one on. They fit right in with the cozy aspect of fall. These coats tend to fall on the more casual side of things but look great with a pair of jeans and heels as seen here.
This is a classic cool-girl style. It adds some edge to an outfit. Even though this is a classic style there are plenty of variations to it including some with additional lining for warmth. This type of jacket can be styled so many ways whether it’s with a great pair of jeans or with your favorite dress.
A trench coat is another timeless style. One thing I love about this coat is that it will resurface again during the transition between winter and spring. While you can go for the traditional look there are lots of variations in color, length, and even material to cater to your individual style.
