My Five Staples for Winter

Today I’m going to share my 5 winter wardrobe staples. These are pieces that are interchangeable to create a number of looks whether you’re headed to the office, relaxing on the weekend, or going out to meet up with up with friends. These are also the types of pieces that you can invest in and wear them for years to come. They act as the foundation of your closet. You can incorporate trends as the years go on but these pieces will definitely still be in your closet.

Black knit sweater

Every winter I go through my closet and I never seem to have the “perfect” black sweater. I have a ton that I like, but none that I love. When I found this knit (unfortunately it’s sold out) by Veronica Beard, I ended my search for the perfect sweater. In this instance, it’s quality over quantity that holds true for a black sweater for winter. This one by Vince and this cashmere one by Majestic are great alternatives for an investment piece.

Trousers

My go-to trousers are these off-white ones from Reiss. Unfortunately, they’re sold out but the brand is definitely worth checking out. This is a great alternative from Halston Heritage if you’re looking for a white trouser. I’ve had these trousers for years, you’ve seen them here and here. I got them tailored to ensure a flawless fit. I highly recommend getting any clothes you wear often tailored. It’s worth the extra money.

Nude heels

The Christian Louboutin Pigalle is my absolute favorite. They took a little time to break in, but now they’re the shoes I always wear. You need a good pair of nude heels to put in your bag and slip on at the office. They’re versatile, classic, and will look great any season.

Structured Coat

This coat from Ann Taylor was one of my favorites. I wish it was still in stock. It was definitely a great buy. Do you remember when I wore it here? It looks professional, but you can also add the faux fur to the sleeves to give it a little personality! The key here is to go for something timeless. You want to be able to wear this coat for a while. If you can find one with a fun detail like this one then that’s just a major bonus.

Sunglasses

This might sound counterintuitive but I always have my sunglasses with me in the winter. You still need to protect your eyes. It also just helps me feel put together. They can really pull an outfit together. A good pair should last you for a while so don’t be afraid to spend a little on some quality glasses. I really love the ones I’m currently wearing from Gap. They have a good selection of lower end sunglasses to play around with new trends.
