5 Things To Do In New York City in the Fall

There is nothing like Central Park in the fall. It is truly the essence of the autumn season with the slight chill in the air, the leaves rustling underneath your feet, the the brilliant colors in the trees. It is the ultimate city escape in the middle of the city. This particular trip up to the park was our first time taking Sebastian in his bike cart. Usually Matt takes Batman around the city with him but now that Sebastian is getting bigger, he was ready to take his first ride. I gotta be honest, it’s a little nerve racking with little one riding with us. Sebastian ended up loving it or at least he didn’t seem to mind as he fell asleep on the way home. It was a good day.

Today, I wanted to share some of my favorite things to do in the fall here in New York City. There are a million other things to do in NYC but there are always a few that stick out the most. Some you may have already done on a prior trip but hope you get a few good takeaways for the next time you are in my neck of the woods.

Bikes In Central Park

This was something Matt and I did nearly every other weekend when we first moved to Manhattan. We would take some snacks and a bootle of wine and bike up to a quiet spot in the park. There is always something going on in Central Park so if you are up for entertainment, it’s got it for you. If you want quiet, away from the buzz, then the park is perfect. There are a number of bikes to rent right around Central Park South. Grab a Citi bike and just roam. It’s the best way to see the park and you get to everything quickly. In the fall, in my opinion, is the best time to be here. As if Central Park needed any more allure, all the trees change color and it’s magical.

*Be sure to pack a picnic and stop to take in all the fresh air!

Ice Cream & Pizza in Dumbo

This is a must do activity whenever we have guests in time. We usually take the East River Ferry down to Dumbo. It’s a relaxing way to get over to Brooklyn and it provides great views of Manhattan as you travel down the river. Dumbo is one of our favorite spots in all of New York City. It provides the perfect weekend setting. We usually grab a pizza to go from Grimaldi’s and go sit and eat under the Brooklyn Bridge. The pizza is our favorite in the city. Although, Rubirosa in Nolita is amazing too! After we eat pizza, we head over to Jacques Torres. Depending on the weather, we will either get their hot chocolate or ice cream sandwiches. Can’t go wrong with either. So good.

*If you’re really up for an adventure, take one of the last ferries from DUMBO to 34th Street. It provides incredible views of the city at night and one of the least expensive things you’ll do in the city!

Shopping in Soho

It’s my favorite place to shop in the city. Soho is just fun, it has all the labels and there is always a great place to stop for a bite or a drink in between stores. You start early enough, you can get around without bumping shoulders the whole time. Plus, you’re bound to see a famous face while out and about in SOHO. You’ll also be able to explore all the places to eat. Rule of thumb, if you’re not sure where to eat, go to the place with the line out the door.

Happy Shopping!

ps. stop by Bloomingdales, it’s my favorite!

Cupcakes in West Village

We absolutely adore West Village. Our dream is to have a brownstone right down the street from Magnolia Bakery. They have amazing deserts. Matt always makes sure we stop in for something yummy. His favorite is carrot cake…remember we ate it in this video. They have a few around the city. I know there is one in Bloomingdales uptown as well. There is a little park right across the street to sit and eat if you want. We will usually grab our sweets to go and wonder the neighborhood looking for pretty places to snap a photo.

* keep an eye out for Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment in SITC, you’ll see a chain blocking off the steps and people snapping photos.

Early morning Stroll on Brooklyn Bridge

The bridge is even more stunning in person than seeing on a magazine or tv. Its the ultimate landmark to snap a pic with and there are no shortage of great shots. Get there early as the bridge gets really crowded. It’s a long way across but on the other side is Dumbo so you can spend the afternoon over in Brooklyn. I know it’s aggressive but if you can somehow get up to be on the bridge during sunrise. It’s absolutely breathtaking seeing the sun shone through the bridge. Love it down there. Plus, you are close to Wall Street and a little farther south you can catch ferries that take you out to Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

*If you want that perfect shot on the bridge, walk across the bridge towards DUMBO and snap a photo of you with the city skyline.

There are so many fun things to do in our great city and would love to hear your favorite things to do here when visiting. Oh, I forgot this one, be sure and get down to Flatiron. Madison Square Park is a cute little place and they have Shake Shack in the park. You can order and sit down and just people watch. It’s fantastic! Till next time. Have a great Thursday!
