City Strolls to Long Island City

Over the weekend we took a stroll over to Long Island City. Well, we didn’t stroll. We walked and then took the East River ferry. It is such an easy commute as its just across the river from us. Matt and I packed up all the baby supplies, grabbed Batman and we headed out!

Being first time parents you always hear about how much longer it takes to get out of the house, and they weren’t kidding. We are typically minimalists when it comes to packing and usually bring as little as necessary. However, now with Sebastian, we bring so much more stuff to cope with all scenarios. We packed up a few extra layers, blankets and his favorite pacifier (ironically enough stop using this week) and of course we bought 3 of them. Yikes. Sebastian is generally a super calm baby but lately he has been a little fussier at home so it takes a little more time to get him ready to go. Once we get him in the stroller and moving, he goes right to sleep. It’s actually pretty incredible. As for Batman, we always bring an extra large water bottle, a water bowl and lots of treats. He’s really good when we go out in the city and when we go to the doggy park, he runs his little heart out. Love him so much!

Now that I’ve actually typed out everything that we brought with us, I’m still trying to figure out why it took so long to get out of the house. It’s all the back and forth in the house while getting ready. Did I unplug the curling iron?  Did I grab my wallet? Where are my gloves? We have since made a list of all the things to bring and should, at least in theory, expedite the process. If anyone has any tips, always happy to take your advice.

For us, Long Island City is the perfect little getaway. They have a great walkway along the water, amazing views of the city, a dog park, and great backdrop for photos. Once Sebastian gets a little bigger, he will be able to play in the playground and run around on the astroturf field with Matt and Batman. It is going to be so much fun to see the two of them become best friends. Batman already is protective of Sebastian when Pfeiffer tries to get too close. Poor kitty. Our next stop with little one will be over to Dumbo, as that’s one of our favorite places to go to get out of the city. We love to grab Grimaldi’s and sit and eat pizza in the park underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. The weather may prohibit the pizza picnic but there are so many cute shops and places to eat over there. So much to do in what seems like so little time. He is growing up so fast!

I am not a big sneaker gal so when it comes to finding shoes or boots to wear on our little city excursions, it can be tough. I absolutely love the Binx Kalamata suede booties from Sole Society, which you might have seen on my Instagram Stories.  Comfort is an understatement and they pair so well with most of my typical street style outfits. For under $100, you can’t go wrong! If you are unfamiliar with Sole Society, they are a fashion brand offering everything from shoes, bags, accessories, apparel, and more. They even have kids stuff! A few other pieces I picked up from Sole Society is the Athenia bag, which makes for the perfect work tote and city bag and this dainty horn necklace.

The entire day was so memorable for us as a family. I’m thankful we have photos to document our entire trip. Looking forward to taking Sebastian to some of our other favorite spots in the city! This weekend we’re planning a trip to Dumbo! I’m just crossing my fingers it’s not too cold to sit out and enjoy pizza on the lawn.
