As you may know, Matt and I met in college. From the beginning, one of the things that I have always admired about him, is his desire for adventure. I’m the spontaneous one in the relationship, and he rarely says no to any of my crazy ideas. We both love traveling new places, trying new food and experiencing new things. Like most New Yorkers, we seek out new places to eat, drink, and enjoy. On this day, our destination was a coffee house. We took an early morning ride on the East River Ferry over to Williamsburg and experienced Devoción for the first time. Easily one of the coolest coffee houses I’ve been to in New York City. It took us back to one of our favorite places…

Both of us love Colombia, especially Medellin. It is such a mis-understood, beautiful place. We are big coffee drinkers and this is the place to enjoy your coffee. During our last visit to Medellin, we toured a coffee plantation at a remote farm in the Andes mountains. The car ride there was long and full of hairpin turns, but the landscape was absolutely stunning. Upon arrival, there was the cutest yellow farmhouse with lots of animals including a litter of puppies running around.  It was so adorable! We hopped in the back of a pick-up and began our ascent up the mountain to the coffee fields. It was such a cool experience to see what goes into the growing, picking, and roasting of the coffee beans. The workers were so great and the views were nothing short of breathtaking.  After the tour, we went back to the house to enjoy a traditional Colombian meal and of course some their coffee. We left with two bags full of coffee that we shared with everyone once we got back home. Put it on your bucket list should you ever get down to Colombia!

Now, back to the coffee house. Nestled on a quiet street in North Williamsburg, Devoción puts you at ease and out of the hustle and bustle. It is so authentic and just different from your typical coffee shop. As soon as you enter, off to your right is their coffee room filled with bags and bags of 100% Colombian coffee. Once into the main space, the brick walls are lined with photos of native Colombians. It’s so cool! It’s such a spacious, beautiful place to relax, work, and catch-up on what’s happening in the world. Check it out the next time you are in Williamsburg.
