My First Trimester

Times flies, especially when you’re expecting! Next Friday marks 20 weeks of my pregnancy…(yippie!) the half way mark! Like I mentioned in my announcement, when I first found out that I was pregnant, I expected the worst. Overall the entire experience has been amazing and I’ve really enjoyed being pregnant.

The first three months I was really tired. I was asleep by the time the clock hit ten. Now at 19 weeks, I’m slowly starting to regain my energy. Most nights I’m in bed around eleven and stay up reading or browsing the web till midnight. One thing I did notice in my first trimester was that my endurance and strength at the gym was at it’s peak. Wasn’t expecting that. I was running faster, lifting heaver weights and doing more repetitions. I felt the strongest I’ve been in years. After reading into it, turns out that our body is doing incredible things to create this little human, which added to that endurance at the gym.

As for the bump, I’m still waiting for it to pop. If you saw my post from over the weekend, it looks like I have a little belly while sitting down. My mom says at seven months I’ll start to have the real “bump”. I hope so! Just in time for cooler weather. I can’t imagine being really pregnant during the summer in Manhattan.  It’s so hot out right now!

I’ve noticed that I get dehydrated quick than normal, especially in this hot weather. If there’s one piece of advice I can give any newly expecting mom, drink lots of water. Earlier today, I went shopping and forgot to bring along my usual water bottle. No bueno. While shopping in the shoe department, I started to have cramps in my side. I put down the shoes and got some water from the bodega down the street.

Most excited about: I’m so excited to find out the sex of the baby!!! Will it be blue or pink?!? From the beginning, I thought I was having a boy. Neither Matt nor myself have a preference, but the anticipation is starting to build! We find out on Friday! Any guesses?

Biggest changes: One of the biggest changes has been in my skin. At twelve weeks, I started experiencing break outs and had really dry skin. Since I was falling asleep on the sofa or barely making it to bed, my skincare routine wasn’t the best. A few weeks ago, I started to be a lot more diligent about my routine and my skin is back on track. I also booked a facial uptown at Mario Badescu.

What I miss most: I miss having a glass of wine while out with friends. Before I got pregnant, I thought I’d have a glass of wine every once in a while, but now that I’m pregnant, I’ve begun ordering mocktails. I’ll have this will out with friends or make one for myself at home from my fresh basil plant!

Craving: Ice cream and Mexican food!

What I’m wearing: This Michael Stars dress from Nordstrom is my new favorite thing in my closet. I was really hoping it would be part of the Nordstrom Anniversary sale,[insert crying face] but to much disappointment, it wasn’t! The dress is non-maternity. It’s comfortable and will transition from summer to fall. Highly recommend. I’d give it my 5-star recommendation.

Mocktail of choice: As someone who likes to have a few cocktails, I knew this would be the big change when I became pregnant. Since we wanted to wait till 16 weeks to share the news, I knew I needed a plan when it came to being out at social events. What I quickly discovered, Virgin Mojitos are the best coverup! No one ever questioned if you’re drinking because it looks like you have a normal beautiful cocktail sitting in front of you. Whenever I’d go to restaurants, I’d sneak away and tell the waiter I was pregnant, so just give me a virgin mojito. They always laughed and played along. There may be a Mocktail recipe or two on the way…

Thanks again for the many congrats!

This look is from last week. After the shoot we stumbled upon the famous cronuts by Dominique Ansel in Soho. The flavor this month is Apricot Toasted Almond. It was spectacular! Cannot wait to try the Black Cherry Chocolate in August.

Have a good start to the week!
