Matt’s parents, who are from St. Louis, met us in Boston last weekend to spend a long weekend together. We started our trip by taking the train from Penn Station to Back Bay Station in Boston. We picked up our car from Avis rental (the rental company is right behind the train station) and zipped over to Fenway to catch a baseball game. Fenway, the oldest baseball stadium in MLB, is a sight to see. Plus, you get brownie points from the special men in your life. It’s a really cool stadium. Since it was raining, we only stayed till the fourth inning and made our way to Cape Cod.  We got a ton of recommendations from our friends and one of the best was where to stay.  A friend, who grew up in Chatham, referred us to the Ocean Edge in Brewster. We booked a one bedroom in the Villages, which includes one bedroom and a sofa bed. It was the perfect accommodation for the four of us. The one bed villa also had a full kitchen and dining area. We ate out most of the time, but if you come prepared you can cook a few meals during your stay.

Saturday morning, I woke up and went for a run and discovered the Cape Cod Rail Trail, it’s a 22 mile paved path for bikers and runners. For the athletes out there, it’s great to find a trail while on vacation. For breakfast, we stumbled upon the Brewster Coffee Shop on 6A.  It’s a local diner with delicious coffee! Everyone loved their food and the waitress was really attentive. The rest of the day we did some sightseeing. We headed south and found the Cape Cod Lavender Farm. I was excited to see all the beautiful lavender, but it’s not in season till September. If you’re in Cape Cod during this time, stop by this lavender farm and snap a few photos. We then drove to a Cranberry Bog only a mile away. Again, they harvest from September to October, but we stopped by to visit the gift shop and see the fields. Really cool. Afterwards, we headed to Chatham to walk on the beached and take a few photos of the beautiful lighthouse. We got several recommendations to stop by the Chatham Bars Inn, so we grabbed a few drinks and sat outside on their patio to enjoy the view and people watch. If you want to stay somewhere luxurious, I’d highly recommend this resort. From the dining area to the beachfront villas, the resort was beautiful. We spent the rest of the evening walking around Chatham. There are a ton of places to shop and eat.  Make a point to stop by the Chatham Candy Manor to fill up on homemade fudge.

Late in the afternoon, we grabbed lobster rolls and clam chowder at JT’s Season. This was my favorite lobster roll on the trip and the chowder was perfectly made. I imagine this place is really busy in the summer, especially since it’s also an ice cream parlor. You order your food and then you can get it to go or enjoy it on the patio.  For a late diner, we headed to The Red Pheasant in Dennis. It was highly recommended by my friend, Grace and only about 15 minutes west of Brewster on 6A.  I think this was everyone’s favorite meal together. The entrees, wine and desserts were delightful.

On Sunday morning, we grabbed a bite to eat at JoMama’s Bagel & Coffeehouse.  The bagels were delicious! We then headed out to Provincetown to do a little sightseeing and shopping.  On the way, we stopped off in the Caper Cod National Seashore to walk along the shores at Herring Cove.  The water was freezing, but the views were gorgeous.  Provincetown has one of my favorite downtown areas.  Most towns have a five or six blocks of shopping, but in Provincetown the shops seemed to go on for a few miles. It was filled with coffee shops, ice cream parlors and art stores and so much more. We stopped at the Lobster Pot for a lobster roll and had a spectacular view of the ocean.  That evening we changed it up and had dinner at Guapo’s Tortilla Shack.  As much as I love seafood, I was excited to have chips and salsa! We finished our trip by driving across town to The Ice Cream Smuggler.  Since it’s off season, most places were closed early but lucky for us, they were open and we got their renowned hot fudge sundae.  It was delicious!  I made a rookie mistake and got the hot fudge sundae with chocolate ice cream, I tasted Matt’s and I should have gone with vanilla. The next time I’m up there, I won’t make the mistake again.
